Mint Lime Agua Fresca (Printable Version)

A crisp, refreshing blend of fresh lime juice, mint, and sweetness to cool you down on hot days.

# What You'll Need:

→ Fresh Produce

01 - 1 cup fresh mint leaves, loosely packed
02 - 3 large limes, juiced (about 1/2 cup lime juice)
03 - 1/2 lime, thinly sliced, for garnish (optional)

→ Sweetener

04 - 1/4 cup granulated sugar or agave syrup

→ Liquids

05 - 4 cups cold water
06 - 1 cup ice cubes

# How-To Steps:

01 - In a blender, combine mint leaves, lime juice, sugar, and 2 cups of water. Blend until the mint is finely chopped and the sugar is dissolved.
02 - Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove all mint solids.
03 - Pour the remaining 2 cups of cold water and ice cubes into the pitcher. Stir thoroughly to combine.
04 - Taste and adjust the sweetness as desired by adding more sugar or agave syrup.
05 - Serve chilled, garnished with lime slices and extra mint leaves if preferred.

# Tips for Success:

01 -
  • It takes less time to make than it does to cool down after coming inside from the heat.
  • The mint and lime wake up your whole palate without any artificial flavors or syrups.
  • You can adjust the sweetness to exactly where you want it, and it never tastes cloying.
  • Its naturally vegan and gluten-free, so everyone at the table can enjoy it.
02 -
  • Straining is not optional, I skipped it once and the texture was grassy and unpleasant.
  • If your limes are very tart, start with less juice and add more after tasting.
  • Let the blended mixture sit for a minute before straining to extract maximum mint flavor.
03 -
  • Freeze leftover agua fresca in ice cube trays and drop them into your next batch for extra flavor without dilution.
  • A tiny pinch of salt in the blender amplifies the lime and balances the sweetness in a way most people cant identify but everyone notices.
